Solid Waste Management

Solid waste management includes all activities that seek to minimize the health, environmental and aesthetic impacts of solid wastes.

 Basic definitions

Solid waste can be defined as material that no longer has any value to the person who is responsible for it, and is not intended to be discharged through a pipe. It does not normally include human excreta. It is generated by domestic, commercial, industrial, healthcare, agricultural and mineral extraction activities and accumulates in streets and public places.

The controlling, Handling and Disposal of all solid waste. One goal of solid waste management is to reduce waste to the least amount possible.

Everything that must be done to handle the trash produced in a community.

Supervised handling of waste materials from their sources through recovery processes to disposal.

Related to storage, collection, transportation, treatment, utilization, processing, and final disposal of solid waste or resource recovery, and facilities necessary for such activities

SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN TOWN

The waste management in the town is entrusted with the team of Municipal Sanitary Inspector, Sanitary Supervisors and Sanitary Workers. The aim of the Municipality is 100% collection of garbage generated in the town daily.

There is 1 Sanitary division in the Municipality for the collection of Garbage from 31 council wards. 52 Sanitary workers and 2 sanitary Supervisors, 1 Sanitary Inspector, 3 Drivers are engaged in Sanitation work. Privatization of garbage collection work is not yet commenced in this Municipality. 18 Metric Tons of garbage is cleaned daily. We have three Tractor trailers, One front end loader with Backhoe and One sucking machine.  We are collecting the garbage from door to door with the help of one RWA and Street rubbish through above said vehicles.

Functions / Service

  • Daily Street Cleaning and Transportation of waste.  
  • Collected waste is disposed through PIT method.
  • Removal of debris and construction wastes.
  • Special conservancy arrangements during festivals and other important occasions attracting large number of people.
  • Maintenance and Cleaning of public toilets, urinals on a daily basis Removal of dead animals.
